Many UC Irvine students choose to spend their free time volunteering around Orange County, whether it is through an organization on-campus or one that is outside of school. Now there is a program offered through UCI that involves students in volunteer service projects, and provides them with resources that aim to increase their awareness of social issues within Orange County.
ZOT IN THE CITY: As I listen to the Beach Boys sweetly croon, "Wouldn't it be nice if we were older? Then we wouldn't have to wait so long," I can't help but commiserate. Sometimes I think that if Brandon and I were just a few years older, a few years wiser, more mature and had solid jobs, I could stop feeling like I'm constantly walking on eggshells while I wait to see if our relationship will blossom into something more.
AWKWARD SITUATIONS: I have a problem remembering people's names. I can remember birthdays, how to knit and John Locke's view on human nature; however, I fail to retain something as simple as a name. And I don't mean unique names; I'm talking about common names like Bob and Jane. Just this past week, I hit a record high of forgetting people I had already met. I tried to introduce myself to five people—all of whom remembered meeting me previously.
Beyond the shopping centers and anonymous business parks, there is an Orange County that claims to have withstood the area's chained charm, formalities...
Dishing It Out: Driving up and down Pacific Coast Highway became my favorite weekend activity after I moved to Irvine to attend UC Irvine four years ago. The scenery during the spring and summer months is especially beautiful, which was why I returned again and again. But there are other draws to PCH as well.
The Way I See It: A few days ago, I was at Peet's Coffee (which, for some reason is much more appealing than its predecessor, Diedrich's Coffee), mindlessly sipping my latte while glaring (not so subtly) at two guys hogging the outlet.
